Place the kitchen on beams

Hello everyone,

I have now ordered my kitchen and I am considering whether it is smarter to place the entire kitchen on wooden beams at the same height instead of on the plastic feet. I would then build and screw together a frame made of wooden beams, lay it down, and place the individual carcasses on top of it.

The reason: I don’t know if the floor is perfectly level, and with the frame construction I expect a perfectly level base as support for the rest of the kitchen that remains permanently stable and where nothing can sink.
I am putting a concrete slab on top, so you have to be careful with the weight anyway.
Since the countertop will also be 70 cm high to accommodate the dryer, I have to build a slat construction on the wall anyway, on which the countertop can rest. This could then also be directly connected to the frame on the floor and guarantee good support for everything. However, the washing machine and dryer would stand on the floor, installed in a way that both can be pulled out if necessary without having to dismantle the entire kitchen if something breaks.

What do you think? I just don’t trust these plastic feet in the long run, not wanting anything to sink over time. Maybe there are also simply decent feet that can be bought somewhere?

Best regards,

Johannes

you would also have to level your beam frame. that can be difficult, even if it is high-quality construction timber, it may be warped. of course, you can fiddle around with the spirit level and plane the legs of your construction as often as needed until the construction has a uniform height.

the plastic legs provide sufficient stability and good adjustability, and you can also clip the base panel onto them without visible screw heads or other DIY workarounds.

if you want a straight line and don’t want to adjust too many legs, then use the wall rail and legs only at the front.

i don’t think much of the idea of building a base construction with your own wooden beams. if something ever leaks, the wood swells and it is no longer precisely aligned. if you have the plastic legs and use the original Metod base panels, the kitchen won’t be damaged by a slight flooding; these base panels are also made of plastic in Metod kitchens. if, for example, you need to renew a wall connection (electricity or water) after damage, you can dismantle the respective base cabinet and pull it forward with the plastic legs. with a wooden construction, you would have to plan that accordingly in advance and it will be more difficult to realize.

if you want to stick to your idea, then either use steel profiles (but then you also need appropriate tools for cutting, etc.) or WPC construction beams for the terrace substructure, which are not sensitive to moisture. although all variants are much more expensive than the original plastic legs would be, even if you just use simple construction timber.

I share the same opinion as fleptin. If you have concerns about the weight, you can also place feet under the side walls.
