But it was not about net metering, but self-consumption, if I am not mistaken. And that does not work. If I feed into one phase, but the dryer is connected to the other, I have no self-consumption, do I?

But, let's say the dryer draws 2kW on phase 2 and the photovoltaic system feeds 2kW into phase 1, then the sum at the meter is 0, just as it would be if both were on the same phase.

Ok that already sounds reasonable and would also be my suspicion. Because the meter has to pull the total in order to bill it. The question is just whether an investment is worth it or not.
