Hello,

we have a very nice and almost like-new Metod front kitchen and would like to keep it a little longer.
A few years ago, we set up a separate kitchen block, with two wall cabinets above it as a display cabinet.
Of course, also the Metod fronts.

Our Metod front is white (silk matte), with rounded corners and the light gray top and bottom trim applied.

The white of the kitchen is still like on the first day and the kitchen is in excellent condition, except for the display cabinet.
This one has narrow Metod trims on the right and left, and these have only yellowed on these display cabinets and thus differ from the clean and radiant white of the other cabinets.

My question:
Can these side Metod trims be painted with a paint roller?
And if yes, with which paint is best to do that?
Pre-treatment – if yes, with what?

I have heard that this is not so easy, the coating could come off.

Has anyone had experience with something like this and can certainly tell me something about it – I really mean from their own personal experience, please no guesses etc.

Thank you very much for your help.
I’m glad to have found such a forum because we have been satisfied Ikea customers for many decades.

Regards
Seoul

Hello,
that was back then the cheapest front and probably the only one that still looks good after 20 years. Nevertheless, at an age of at least 18 years, I would no longer speak of like-new condition.
Unfortunately, nothing comparable ever came after

Consider whether you want to replace the display cabinet doors with [RUBRIK] as long as this is still possible. The [METOD] front is melamine-coated with a miniperl structure. I rather think you will not find anyone here who can report experience with painting it.

Thank you,

I have since found out that there is indeed high-quality paint that has been specially developed for kitchen front painting, whose fronts are coated.

I will visit Hornbach once.

And yes, I am explicitly talking about almost like new, because it still is after all these years. It actually looks as if we had just assembled it recently, even though we use it constantly. I have rarely seen anything more durable and robust. Whether it was the *cheapest* back then I cannot say anymore; we paid around 3000 DM (without appliances).
In any case, it was by far our favorite, and that was what counted then and now alone. And it has proven worthwhile. Except for the aforementioned display cabinet upper cabinet.

Edit:
We do not particularly like these RUBRIK fronts.

Edit-2:
The link was very helpful because it says that it apparently works very well. Great. My next Hornbach project

But we'll manage that again.

Report on how it turned out.

I do not want to give up my METOD fronts either and want to use them for another 20 years.

I read a certain irony in it, but it doesn't matter. We certainly won't keep them for 20 years anymore, but it will definitely be 2-3 years, at most.

We will probably replace the doors with glass loose Metod fronts, of which we still have plenty of original packaged ones. Back then, when the kitchen was discontinued, we bought a ton of these fronts for doors and all drawers at low prices and stockpiled them. Individually packed and sealed. But unfortunately no display fronts.

Well, we'll see....

No, that was completely without irony. I am attached to my things, take good care of them, and really don’t like the use-and-throw-away mentality.
