Q2 can also simply be omitted. However, in new buildings, settlement cracks often appear on the walls in the first few years, which of course you see immediately. But if that doesn’t bother you, you can certainly save quite a bit. Painting the ceilings directly is relatively unproblematic. We didn’t have a single crack there.

I have (mentally) assumed priming, of course that is part of painting for me.

We also painted the plastered walls directly (after priming, of course ). It looks great, very clean appearance and you save yourself the wallpapering. If a smooth fleece is to be applied, the walls must be prepared well enough so that you can also prime and paint right away (provided you can live with settlement cracks).

From experience with our solid wood house, it is enough if it is properly filled, primed, and painted. If somewhere, in the corners, a small crack appears, I can still fill it with acrylic. This is not comparable to the huge effort of gluing everything with background fleece. I consider priming with the airless device to be exaggerated. A roller or a ceiling brush is sufficient here; otherwise, you stick and cover longer than you paint.

Regards

P.S. May I ask who you built your solid wood house with?

We had all walls and ceilings sanded to Q2. Then everything was primed and afterwards everywhere smooth fleece was applied to the walls and ceilings to prevent cracking.

In the hallways and stairwell, we received a very fine premium plaster. All ceilings were smoothly and white painted. The premium plaster was also painted white twice.

In all living rooms, smooth fleece was painted white everywhere (one or two walls in color).

In the bathrooms, we had tiles laid halfway up the wall (except for the wet area). In the upper area, premium plaster was applied again, some of which was painted in color.

In case anyone is interested: Total cost together (without own labor) for about 190 sqm of living space approx. €15,000.

I also have a question about this: We received a folder with the most important notes in advance from our general contractor, and it says that we should not plaster the walls in the first year. Allegedly, this is about mold formation because there would still be residual moisture in the construction that could not escape otherwise. For us, this would of course be really bad, because due to our cats we did not want to wallpaper any walls, but only plaster them.

What is your experience or opinion?

I don't understand that. When wallpapering, the walls must be plastered beforehand. I assume that these are stone walls. Plastering usually takes place before moving in.
