One or two builders?

Hello everyone,

I have read a lot here, but I couldn't find an answer to my question

We (my wife and I) want to build.

Does it make a difference to the insurance companies whether only I or both of us are the builders?
Do you have to take out two policies then?
How have you handled this?

Which insurance do you mean? Presumably, in roughly 99% of cases involving married couples, both are simultaneously builders, loan debtors, and owners.

I mean all insurances related to house construction. Legal protection, liability, ...

Of course, it doesn't make a difference. You might have to specify both owners on the insurance policy, but only one insurance is taken out for a construction project.

You will probably only have one joint household insurance policy for your apartment, right?

As a builder you need
- Builder's liability insurance
- Fire shell construction insurance
- If applicable, construction performance insurance

As an owner-occupier:
- Residential building insurance
- Optional household contents insurance

In most cases, the fire shell construction insurance will be incorporated into the residential building insurance. These insurances apply to the property; they are only taken out once.

As a risk-aware citizen (owner or tenant) you need
- Private liability insurance

As a family, for example, we have one (!) "extended household contents insurance," which includes private liability insurance for parents and children (talk to your insurance company!).

Risk-averse people then take out occupational disability insurance (this insures individual persons). In my opinion, legal protection is only considered afterwards.
