Exactly. What's the point of all the fuss if you don't feel like it?

Yes, get rid of it definitely!!! That’s what it’s all about, how do I get rid of that sh... quickly and easily :-D after that, it will definitely be lawn, bark mulch, or the stone paths will be enlarged. We have so many corners here that need doing, and some should just look better, others should be used effectively.

Did I miss something?
The owner..... so you are therefore a tenant.
The owner can hire a gardener, or you can take the work off their hands, whether paid or not. But what you are not allowed to do: destroy the dear garden or tear out the plants.

Even if you don’t feel like working... a garden complex usually involves several thousand euros, plus something that is priceless, namely time... 1 to 2 generations.
So if you have no idea, leave it.

ypg the owner is family (you know how that is, everything is different there) and very old. We can mostly do whatever we want and we have to. That was his wish before moving in. However, the owner now neglects "his" tasks in the garden. Because of this and because we now have two small children aged 14 and 2 months, we can no longer look away and have to take over everything. I know what the garden looked like 15 years ago from photos (I have been with my husband for 10 years). Back then I would have agreed with you, time, money, passion. None of that is left.... I myself am 200% a city kid, for me the most beautiful garden consists purely of asphalt and I love the green most on my plate next to a juicy steak. And my husband is a sloth through and through. He loves mowing the lawn and occasionally planting some salad, but rarely enjoys anything else (that's why everything low-maintenance is great).
