new Morliden door - older Ikea Billy shelf

Hello, we want to attach the new Morliden doors to our older Billy shelf. And for the first time, something is not working with Ikea! The door hinges would have to be set lower at the top and higher at the bottom on the door than indicated in the instructions, because at the specified mounting height there are no holes at all in our Billy. That wouldn't even be the problem if it weren't for the following: The hinge fixing screws for the Morliden are much thinner than the pre-drilled Billy holes - they cannot be secured tightly. The corresponding screws for the Aneboda doors on our other Billy shelf look different - they are thicker and shorter and hold!! What is wrong here? Thank you, Tremosine

Hello, the new Billys have 3 mm instead of 5 mm holes. So you have to use a 3 mm drill when drilling holes for the new doors. You can also replace the thin screws with thicker ones. These have the Ikea part number 100344 and should be available from customer service.

I just stumbled over the headline again and noticed that I probably wrote nonsense in some parts. I had the Oxberg doors in mind instead of MORLIDEN doors. With MORLIDEN, the screws probably cannot be replaced if holes that are too large have been drilled. Instead, the entire mounting plate must be replaced or the slots must be widened with a file for larger screws. Perhaps one could also simply insert 5 mm dowels into the holes that were drilled too large.

Hello, the mounting plate should still be available, but it is only useful if you have already drilled the holes too large. The new Billy has the holes in different positions, so you always have to drill new holes, and then you might as well drill some 3 mm holes for the supplied plate.

Correct, the holes where the door is supposed to be attached on the new Billy are higher and lower than on the previous ones. Since we can mark the height of the holes to be drilled by holding the door (with hinges on the frame) but not their horizontal position, our justified concern now is that the doors will be crooked afterwards. Before I start drilling anything wrong, two questions, one about the holes, the other alternatively about the old 5mm hinges.

1. What is the distance of the new holes to the front edge (where the door hinges would be attached)? If it is at least similar to before - which I suspect due to the same length of the hinge strips - I would only have to shift the purchased 5mm hinges on the door vertically relative to the markings on the new frame so that they fit. If not: How exactly is the distance of the new 3mm holes to the edge (so that I at least have a fair chance to drill them correctly)?

2. Do the "old" 5mm hinges still fit into the aluminum frame of the new Morliden door itself? If yes, what is the item number of the old 5mm hinges and how can I find out if they are in stock at the Berlin Lichtenberg branch?
