You don't want to drive from Horb to Sindelfingen in the morning - that's annoying people...

Thank you very much for your response.

Your information was helpful and I think that an older house will be very difficult to manage.

Regarding work, I/we are actually not tied to the location, since I work 98% from home and my wife is a childcare worker who could relatively easily change jobs (she currently works in a daycare in a problem district, so she isn’t afraid of changing). A second car is almost certainly necessary but it doesn’t have to be anything special since I work from home (thus I don’t expect it to be a major cost factor).

The simple new-build house would be great and is also my favorite, if only I knew whether the current providers could be trusted!? Or should one rather build independently, with an architect and self-organization of the trades?

Thank you very much for the info.
Do you think a terraced house for just under €550k is realistically possible?

Actually, the availability of land (on the site I linked but was not allowed to link) is very scarce.
Do you possibly have an idea how to get cheaper plots of land?

Which providers are they specifically?
What does "trust" mean to you?
With all providers, you get exactly what is stated in their service description. If you (also with the help from here in the forum) find the points that are added on top of the "starting from" price, you have a final price.
Around Stuttgart (I also count Sindelfingen as part of that), it will be expensive. Mainly because of the land prices.
As a good example, the Deutsche Reihenhaus, which really builds very standardized, but in Stg-Plieningen for 143 sqm (on a small plot) already has to ask for at least 630k.

So if you can actually move out to the countryside, then it can indeed be possible. On an inexpensive plot, it can also be enough for a small detached house (so 100k for the land, the rest for the house with everything included, but without major special requests).

Thank you very much for your honest assessment and your advice!

The commute can be excluded from consideration since I work from home 98% of the time, and my wife is a kindergarten teacher who will certainly find a job anywhere. The only issue is the distance to my parents, which is a bit further, but you don't go there every day anyway.

In my opinion, the income is not little either, but with Daimler, Bosch, and Porsche on the doorstep, of course, it's a different league.

There will only be one child (unfortunately no more possible after two cancer illnesses).

It's crazy that it really takes a lot of effort to save €80k and yet it is still very little.

It wouldn't have to be a new build for me either, but finding affordable townhouses that are not older than 2000 will be difficult. Unless you maybe have a tip for me here?
