If I don’t want to decide yet in which room the network operator’s equipment should be installed, is it sufficient for these sockets to be connected to each other in a ring? Or do they all have to be connected star-shaped to the storage room right away, and am I therefore dependent on placing the router there?

Currently, networks are laid out in the so-called star topology. So, as you already said, all cables run together in the utility room (or basement, or storage room) and are connected there with a switch. Since at the end all cables are "equally" connected to each other, it does not matter where a router is located.

It is different with external access - this initially has nothing to do with the Ethernet LAN cables: If you want internet via the telephone line, your TAE socket must be located where the modem/router is supposed to be placed. If you want internet via cable TV, you need the corresponding coax socket where the modem/router is supposed to be placed.

But no matter where the device is then located - from there you go into your star-shaped LAN and thus have internet access everywhere.

Then it would be sensible for me to keep the multimedia outlets in every room and additionally have network cables coming out of the wall next to each one, which run together in the storage room. That way, I have TV in every room. To have internet everywhere, another multimedia outlet will be installed next to the router in the storage room. Additionally, I will move the TAE socket from the hallway to the storage room. Does that make sense? Additional costs should be limited to those for the outlets and the cable, since the cable runs directly next to the TV cable.

Who asks can be helped ;-) Why don't you follow up on what exactly is behind the "Multimedia-Dose"?

This is how I did it. Only with fewer multimedia sockets, I only need them in the living room and office and not in the bedrooms and children's rooms. In the storage room, you only need the data connection from the cable provider - a fully equipped multimedia socket would therefore not necessarily be necessary.

And could you then ensure TV in the bedrooms and children's rooms via the network box?
