Hello everyone,

I have a problem: I had the partition wall in my bathroom retiled (tile on tile), I removed the installed sanitary ware and, being diligent, disposed of it immediately. Now I have noticed that all the washbasins displayed in the hardware store have an installation dimension of 280mm.

Honestly, I didn’t think about it when dismantling, I assumed the measurements were standardized like with the toilet, so the 450mm would be correct... well, unfortunately, I was wrong.

Can someone tell me if there are still current washbasins with these bolt spacings, maybe a manufacturer that specifically uses these dimensions? The old one was a Villeroy & Boch... but on their website I only found the mentioned 280mm.

Is there perhaps an emergency bracket to change the dimensions on the wall?

Thanks

Best regards

According to DIN, the distances (already for many, many years) are 18 or 28 cm. I can't imagine that you would get a current washbasin that is installed at 45 cm. I just dismantled an old Villeroy & Boch (certainly 20 years old), and even then it was 28 cm.

Whether there is a bracket? Sorry, I don't know that.

Why not cut off the old bolts and set new ones?

I am also surprised by the 45cm.. I honestly haven’t even found a sink with these dimensions, except for the basin that I dismantled.

How am I supposed to set the new bolts? For that, I would have to chip off the tiles again?

I had thought about carefully cutting out a rectangular strip between the bolts with the angle grinder to get to the bolts; in hindsight, you won’t see it anyway since there will always be a sink hanging in front of it.

Why? Do you have a solid, pre-built wall?

Then just cut off the old bolts and install the new ones accordingly. For that, you only need a drill and €2.95.

No, I have a stud wall, but it is already tiled, tile over tile. In a solid masonry wall it wouldn’t be a problem..
