Exactly for that reason, I would remove the brick where a post is going, so that the metal profile rests directly on the concrete. Then you can just fiddle the stones back in, why drill through them? If they break off (they probably will break when drilling anyway) your fence will be standing on the toothpicks... that seems unnecessarily complicated to me. Just glue the stones back later and that’s it, or remove the stones completely and replace them with something else to taste.
I thought about it again and would now actually chisel out the clinker bricks at the posts, which also has the advantage that the privacy screen doesn't have so much distance above the wall (I have to mount the U-profiles in such a way that the fittings are visible, since that way they have more stability, so I can only start screwing the slats above the fittings), as the U-profiles now sit lower.
I will also ask my landscaper again for his opinion, who is supposed to take over the paving on the driveway and who thought the wall could stay as it is if it doesn’t bother us visually (when we spoke to him, the privacy screen was not yet planned, so we didn't bring it up back then).
