Exactly! More urban gardening instead of boring standard fences and walls! ;)

I don't think a fence is bad. From your side, you could cover it with climbing plants as suggested.

I don't think a gabion wall is bad either. They come in various versions.

Gabions can be customized. Different stones, even lighting, are possible. But please pay attention to the mesh size. Especially for fence gabions, a tight mesh should be chosen. There are many ideas to be found.

When it comes to the height, a freestanding dry stone wall is quite a challenge... it also requires reinforcement anchored in the foundation that runs up through the wall, as well as, if possible, anchoring to the sides with concreted piles or to the house wall. How about a gabion fence (basically 2 fixed fence panels with a hand-width gap filled with stones)? Or a solid wooden fence, such as the concrete/wood fence from Lind Beton.

Hello,
may I express a pro-wall opinion?
You can permanently cover it with ivy, then it’s a real piece of nature.
I am actually also considering a privacy screen towards the street. I think 50 € per square meter is still okay if it lasts many decades without maintenance.
However, I am also afraid of the foundation and construction costs. O.O
I will call a relevant company next week; if anything interesting comes up, I’ll report back here.
Best regards

I would only let ivy climb if the distance to the house is far enough. Ivy is poisonous and once planted, it keeps growing back. Personally, that stuff would never voluntarily come into my garden! Our gabion wall was finished today. :) Pictures of it will be in the construction diary tomorrow. It is two meters high and 13 meters long. We really like it as a retaining wall. As a privacy fence it would be too bulky, although our structure has a depth of one meter. Thin gabions don’t look so great at 2 meters high as I initially thought. Therefore, we now face the question of whether we would rather plant a hedge instead of another gabion wall. WPC wouldn’t be bad either, but unfortunately it’s not exactly cheap
