I currently have such devices in use in the house, they work quite well. They are not very suitable for outdoor use. You are absolutely right. Somehow I don’t really want to believe that there isn’t a low-end DECT solution. It will probably come down to running cables, and then it’s no extra effort to lay a data line alongside.

Can you briefly explain why they are hardly suitable for outdoor use? I only have experience indoors from earlier times, but they are just as good as yours there as well.

Alternatively, I just saw a directional radio antenna for 650 EUR on EBAY. You have to weigh the investment costs against buying a microwave, which you then no longer need. And you can communicate wirelessly with your outdoor unit.

1. I do not trust these things to be weather resistant and 2. I consider the ventilated design highly attractive to crawling creatures that hope for warmth. Microwave link? I prefer low end. I would rather get an old FFOBZB, but even then I need cables again.

If it draws power, the data line should also be laid at the same time without much effort. Powerline is a (poor) retrofit solution and never reaches the speed and reliability of a real LAN. You don't need radio links for something like this. An outdoor access point is sufficient. But since the line would then also be outside, you might as well lay it for the remaining meters too. Those who recommend Powerline should not talk about capturing WLAN. A good WLAN (e.g. radius authentication with certificate, separate network, MAC address, no new devices allowed...) is significantly more secure. With Powerline it depends. Sometimes the neighbor also gets the signal...

thanks for the tip about Ando. I must admit that I am not very educated architecturally. More the type "I like this, less that." Your wooden house and also 's really appeal to me. They simply radiate warmth and coziness. I have always wanted cubist with concrete. Inside there will also be some (walnut) elements. Your wooden wall also dampens the WiFi signal quite a bit. Especially since you probably also have insulation, vapor barrier or something similar.

Sorry, but somehow it seems you neither properly read the question nor my answer. Part of the question was: "The second-best solution would be to run ONLY power there," => Based on this premise, I wrote how data can also be transmitted over the power line. Of course, the 1000Mbit line is better than powerline, but that was not part of his preferred solution space in the question.

I don't want to open a side debate about Wi-Fi here, but RADIUS is rather something for companies and is not supported by a typical consumer modem router. But sure, if you set up a RADIUS server yourself and can configure and operate all of this, why not.

Microwave radio for 35 meters distance was a JOKE!!! I almost expected that you wouldn't need this technology for that.

And regarding MAC addresses and not allowing new devices: that is exactly one command line to appropriate any desired MAC address (which I previously see monitoring your devices). So also those of the devices that are already allowed. Not to mention other attack scenarios. Whoever wants to set up Wi-Fi outdoors, let them do it. I only advised the OP against it based on my personal experience. Especially if this is to be tied in with door intercom systems that also unlock doors/gates, etc.

You are right, I wrote that only electricity is the second best solution. Thanks for the tip, Powerline would be an option, I would find outdoor-capable devices.
