Hello everyone,

I would like to discuss my floor plan and especially my lighting design.
It is a semi-detached house with approximately 10x6m floor area.
At the top of the plan is west, sliding door facing south.
The sofa will be moved further towards the center near the sliding door upwards, this is not yet shown in the plan.
The kitchen is not yet precisely planned. Next to it is the laundry chute.

For the basic lighting in the living/dining room, I was thinking of about 6 concrete boxes 10x10cm with LED spotlights with a wide beam angle. Distance 1.6m and 1.36m from the wall and each other, see picture. Two pendant lamps will be added over the dining table and possibly in the living room. Later I want to install a narrow light cove at the top and left along the sliding door with spots and LED strips. Also in the kitchen.
The stairs will get a wall light and floor lighting.

Question is:
-Are recessed ceiling lights suitable for background lighting?
-Is the distribution sensible?

The WC is very small at 1.05x140cm in favor of a cupboard width of 1m in the hallway. The door is narrow. Are the dimensions practical?

Many thanks for all suggestions and criticism

Hi,

do you really want to furnish exactly as indicated in the "Lichtplan"?

A sofa in the middle of the room with its back to the windows?
I'm not sure if that would look good and be beneficial to the room's impression, I like the sofa corner in the other picture much better.

I think I've read somewhere about recessed spotlights that the distance from the wall should be about 1/3 of the ceiling height, so the walls get enough light; often they are mounted about 50 and 90 cm away from the wall.
Recessed spotlights provide light through reflection on the walls and floor (air doesn't shine), also very nice for hallways and walkways.

Usually, they are arranged in groups so that they create a visually sensible unit.
For example, I wouldn't mix the lamp above the dining table in the same alignment.
The distances also seem too small for that.
If the table doesn't stand 100% symmetrically where planned, it looks weird again, so I would rather plan only one pendant lamp above the table (it's more flexible) and place 4 or 6 recessed spotlights more toward the corners of the room.

I wouldn't put a pendant lamp in front of the TV without a table underneath.

For your hallway, I can imagine one or two ceiling spotlights well, maybe also extended into the area in front of the stairs...

That's just my opinion, I'm not an expert either, but I read a bit about it recently since we're also building.

I hope I could maybe give you one or two suggestions.

Best regards

Hello Aragorn,

thank you very much for your great tips.
If the sofa is positioned as in the other picture below, it is 4.5m to the TV.
I also do not like the TV facing the wall of the stairwell because it is only 1.55m wide.

I have now reorganized the arrangement of the downlights. Distances are 1.8m apart from each other and different from the wall, see picture.
In the middle there is a pendant light hanging from the ceiling. The distance to the other lights is thus 1.27m. That should be sufficient?

In front of the TV there is a pendant light and with table, the X. Could that possibly disturb when watching TV?

Regarding the television and hanging lamp: yes, that is disturbing and will always reflect on a glass table

By what would it be best to replace it?
