Good day,
my wife and I have bought a prefab house from 2013 - company Danwood. I have been planning for quite a while now how to lay LAN throughout the entire house.
I also think that I have found a solution for almost everything so far. However, there are still some questions that I have not yet found answers to.

1. If I install Inputz-LAN sockets in the interior walls (i.e., the room dividers), do I significantly influence the sound insulation/soundproofing? Does it affect anything else?

2. Can I drill through entire interior walls without damaging the mineral wool inside? By that, I mean, is there a risk that the wool knots at the drill bit (400mm length) and gets wrapped around it?

3. Is there a way to screw a TV onto a wall with a vapor barrier? Would plugs/screws severely damage the vapor barrier? Are there special plugs for this? Probably not recommended, how do you see it?

For everything else, I have planned the following. On exterior walls (walls with vapor barrier), I will lay the cables on the surface. For interior walls, I will mill a groove into the walls (drywall/wood) using a router so that I can lay the cables inside. To install LAN sockets, I will drill a hole like in masonry walls (ONLY interior walls).

If you find errors in my planning, please let me know. If you have ideas on how I can retrofit cables in the walls, please also let me know. Unfortunately, the house does not have cable conduits. Everything is laid together with the insulation inside the walls.

Best regards

No, not worth mentioning. I can't think of anything else either. After all, it exists in millions of other houses as well.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We always made the first hole a bit bigger and then inserted a pipe through to the other wall. Let the pipe protrude 1-2cm and then drill towards the other wall through that.

Can you find out the substructure? You could use the corresponding beams there. Otherwise, there should still be some installation zone. I've also heard that people simply use 4.5 x 35 screws and if the screws are unscrewed, they just inject silicone/acrylic into the hole.
Mounting the TV on a frame set off from the wall would be the best solution here.

Adventurous! How do you want to close the grooves?
I would probably have removed the baseboards and chipped away a little bit at the bottom to push the cable behind it. Put the baseboards back on and done. The LAN socket goes at 30cm. You can still thread that piece through with a wire or something similar.

World-class idea! Thanks for that!

As far as I can tell, the installation zone does not exist. Our wall is built from inside to outside like this: drywall (1.2cm) -> vapor barrier => wood (1.2cm)
That’s why I also have problems doing it properly. The idea with the substructure is also brilliant. Hopefully, I can find it with my detector. Thanks!

I just wanted to putty the slots again. I just need to find the right compound so that the stuff can move and no cracks occur, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Do you have an idea?
My baseboards are cut tiles. I had already thought about laying cables behind them as well. However, I’m not sure if I can remove the tiles without destroying them.
I have to mill the slots to get to the upper floor. We have an open gallery in the hallway. Unfortunately, there are no pipes going up and we have underfloor heating everywhere. I really don’t feel like drilling through that :D

I can only give the tip to be careful when drilling at a height of 30 cm to ensure that there are no other cables there. We renovated the facade a few weeks ago. We took the opportunity to run LAN cables along the facade into the rooms:

However, the facade is probably not up for discussion with you?

Or are you reconsidering? Then you need an underground cable, as it is protected against moisture.

Furthermore, pay attention to the bending radii. I hope you are planning duplex? Which CAT cables?

Thank you for the tips. We are not touching the façade, it still looks like new. As long as my locator device does not disappoint me, I can identify the cables or pipes behind the walls and avoid damaging them.

A CAT7 duplex cable will be installed ... I don't want to run 2 cables everywhere. I initially thought about Cat 8, but quickly dismissed the idea with the price of over €200 :p Besides, I am not sure if a maximum length of 30m will be sufficient for me.

Also, with the duplex cable, I can directly supply an outlet with 2 LAN ports. If I need 10Gbits at some point, I can still upgrade. It's just a matter of changing the outlets.

Or do you think CAT8 would be more sensible in today's times?

Cat 7 is completely sufficient. It will be a while before consumer devices exceed 10 Gbit. Whether you will need it then? I don’t think so.
