Lay vinyl floating on floating cork flooring?

Hello everyone,

first of all: there is no underfloor heating.

We have chosen a vinyl floor that will be installed floating. Currently, there is floating cork flooring in the rooms in question. In terms of buildup height, it would be good to lay the vinyl on the cork so that we align with the tile surface of the hallways.

The vinyl seller advised against floating on floating. Reason: Both floors could move against each other.
Now, the two materials do slide over each other, so I’m thinking: Even if they do, so what?

I am rather inclined to consider roughening the cork a bit since the two floors really slide well over each other.

So two questions:
1) Floating on floating ok?
2) If YES to 1), roughen or not?

Does anyone have experience with this and can say something about it? Or can an expert like [USER=28384]@KlaRa provide some quick feedback?

Best regards

We did that in our very first rental apartment. On a floating cork floor, another floating layer was installed. Never, never again! After 6 months, everything was taken out again with great effort.. it had moved and shifted massively. Gaps and crevices everywhere.

The gaps and cracks at the edges, or where?

Answer:
An old covering, in this case even loosely laid, is not a suitable substrate for installation!
Of course, you can install whatever you want in your own four walls. However, in this case one decides against the technical rules of the trade.
These exist, however, in order to avoid disadvantages as much as possible.
Question 1 must therefore be answered with no.
Question 2 becomes obsolete.

Thank you for your answer.

Now, for example, with bonded substrates, overlaying is not so uncommon and I have not yet heard of any problems from tile on tile.

What problems could I expect with "loose on loose" and why might it be a particularly bad idea in my case?

Answer to this:
I have also never heard of loosely laid wall tiles. Wall tiles as well as floor tiles can be primed, filled, and (in case of wall tiles immediately) laid on top with a reactive resin adhesive after appropriate degreasing.

Answer to this:
"schubert79" had already listed one of the unpleasant consequences of such unprofessional installation in response to this question! Especially with the so-called "click systems," the locks are (note: for cost-saving reasons) just barely designed so that the element or the floor element can still be used. The former ALLOC system was excellent but expensive to reproduce due to existing patents. Today the edge locks are sufficient, but only on firm substrates that do not tend to an "uncontrolled life of their own" after being covered.
