Since I was also concerned about the question of the right time to fertilize, I came across the following aspect in another forum.
The main consensus is that fertilizing should start once the cumulative daily mean temperature reaches 150 degrees Celsius. Because the plant does not know our calendar. From this temperature on, the lawn apparently needs the most nutrients to compensate for the strains of winter. If the timing is missed, you probably spend the whole year playing catch-up.
The big problem here is that this temperature for weeds is already at 120 degrees. So if you wait too long, the weeds may gain the upper hand.
