Kramfors sofa leather brown - defective...

Hello everyone,

I have been an Ikea customer for many years and finally moved in with my girlfriend in January 2008. We bought our entire apartment furniture at Ikea in December 2007. Among other things, the Kramfors sofa with brown leather. I have a receipt for all purchases except for the sofa. The sofa was delivered to me by a shipping company and the amount was paid in cash there. I assume that we did not receive a receipt from them. I myself was not at home during the delivery, only my girlfriend, and since we were pretty stressed and the sofa had to stay packed in the apartment for about 14 days, I may not have paid attention. Now I have the same problem as others with the sofa, the leather is damaged. I have already called Ikea but they apparently cannot find any purchase documents. They are also not 100% sure about the shipping company. I know that the shipping company that delivered my other furniture did not deliver the sofa.

What should we do now??? We ordered the sofa on the last day of a 20% promotion in December 2007 at Ikea Ludwigsburg. It was delivered in early January 2008. Can someone help me or give me a tip? The sofa is a corner sofa, so 2 two-seaters and a corner, plus an ottoman. Price about €2000. Paid in cash upon delivery.

Shit, I'm sorry for you..

I think without a receipt/invoice you can't do anything anymore.. just like in any other store in the world. With a receipt, a regular customer has a 3-month exchange right. As a family member, even forever!

But Ikea should be able to reproduce the purchase receipt??? Or not...

I do think that it is definitely doable. But then IKEA would probably need its own department to handle this for 10,000 customers a day (and even more on Saturdays), to arrange a purchase receipt for everyone who no longer has their receipt.

I really wonder how they can demand that. No matter which furniture, electronics, or kitchen store I get something delivered from: everywhere I am obliged to check the goods and only then sign the delivery note.. and you ALWAYS get a receipt. If the shipping company "forgot" that at the moment, I think it was your girlfriend’s responsibility to ask about it afterward.

Nevertheless, I still think you have chances if you go to your IKEA in person and explain the situation. Be persistent and also point out that you have heard that the KRAMFORS sofas apparently have quality problems. Don’t call anyone or write letters, go to the store in person and don’t let yourself be sent away with a customer service number.

I have already been to the IKEA in Ludwigsburg and politely and factually explained the problem there. The kind clerk immediately told me that this problem is known but without a receipt she could do nothing. Then I contacted Ikea by email. At first, this caused a lot of confusion but then there was a call from a caseworker who said that based on the purchase date or the period and the name, they could reproduce the receipts. That sounded very promising. So I gave them my name, just in case also the name of my girlfriend and the name of my mother. We also provided addresses in all variations. After two weeks the call came, "We could not find anything!" - "You did not purchase anything from us during this period!" I spent about €10,000 during that period only at IKEA in Ludwigsburg, of which €5,000 was paid in cash, €3,000 with the 0% financing, and we got the sofa from mom for Christmas, which was paid to the driver. The caseworker then became somewhat unfriendly and said, "No receipt, no exchange." He could not even tell me the shipping company with which IKEA Ludwigsburg delivers their order items, because the shipping company that delivers the items that are in stock at the IKEA store is a different one; this one can also track when they were at my place. If I knew the other shipping company, I could inquire there, but apparently it is delivered by Hermes. However, I do not yet know which shipping company it is from the region.
