With us (single-family house, laminated safety glass) the tilt lock has been sufficient. You can only tilt the window and open it with a key only for cleaning.

It is a 15m2 children's room (approx. 4.2x3.5m), which has only one window. Fortunately, it is the only window that is not high enough due to the sloping roof. I was at the window manufacturer today, and he suggested using a built-in roller shutter box that is only 15cm high and is installed directly under the roof rafters, instead of the other surface-mounted boxes that are 30cm high. As a result, the visible area at the highest point will be about 160cm. From 160cm, the window frame etc. begins.

Hello ! I am digging up this topic here and would be happy if you are still active here. Have you made progress in your construction project or implemented it that way? We are currently facing the same challenge.

Hello,

I am no longer active in this forum, but I just received an email about your post. We installed the window in this room exactly as described in my post above, it worked quite well and the result is not bad at all.
Take a look at the photos.

Wow thank you so much! How large is the window now dimensioned at your place (width/height) and how big is the room (m²)? It would be really great if I could ask you a few more questions in the coming days, if desired also via private message. ;)

For us, there will be a knee wall of 2 meters minus 16 cm floor construction. We are also already omitting the built-in roller shutter. The clear rough construction dimension is currently planned at 1.75 cm from the top edge of the raw floor. Minus the floor construction, this leaves about 1.55 cm in height for the window, with fixed glazing at the bottom. Above that rises a 35° gable roof with a 40 cm roof overhang. The room will be about 13 sqm in size. With a room width of 3.8 m, we have currently planned the window to be 2 m wide.

Now, of course, everything runs through one’s head... How does it look, also from outside? Enough light due to height and roof overhang? Better a prefab dormer after all... And so on and so forth. I guess you know almost every train of thought. :)

Oh yes: I would gladly support your next barbecue party with a crate of pilsner from our region. ;)

I would give you all the measurements tomorrow here and answer your questions. PN isn’t necessary. Maybe others would like to read along who have similar problems ahead. I could also take a few photos from outside.

Thanks for the beer offer, your beer is surely tasty, but I do it this way too :))
