It's simply a matter of personal preference. For us, cooking/washing dishes together in the kitchen is part of it. Especially when there are guests and I prepare a larger spread, it's a shame to stand alone in the kitchen while the party happens elsewhere. The tidying up continues afterwards.

Of course, clattering can bother the partner, but since you decide together to go for an open solution, it would be a shame to close it off again with sliding doors. At least I find it a shame. In my opinion, there is nothing better than the smell of freshly prepared food.

Thank you for the note about Fallingbostel. The Maxime 300 from Viebrockhaus is there, and you can view it virtually. Interesting solution with the door.

For me, the advantage of the sliding doors is that in the final stages of my walks, when I sometimes need peace, I can withdraw a little, but otherwise I am right in the middle of the action. For this reason, a completely closed kitchen is also out of the question for us.

Yes, that was also our opinion. As mentioned, we have not yet implemented the glass sliding doors. However, it would be prepared at the ceiling.

With a downdraft extractor into the room, that is not vented outside, you have to accept some odor. No matter how active the carbon filters may be. However, after about 1 day, it is out of the house again thanks to controlled ventilation. But it certainly also depends on the individually cooked dishes and cleaning habits.

It makes much more sense in this constellation to simply consider separating the living area with sofa, TV, and reading corner, and to keep the dining/cooking area close together as near to the terrace as possible.

Concentration in the final phase of the cooking process... a sink island with a cooking hob row along the wall helps... feel free to google "Koch(halb)-Insel o. Spülen(halb)insel o. reine Arbeits(halb)insel o. überhaupt Insel".
