I do not share that opinion: In our current house, we definitely have cutouts for sockets in the glass. They just need to be carefully planned in advance. Then it is absolutely no problem and also not a price driver. Well, it was quite a while ago. But the (2) cutouts cost 115 euros back then (2007). The glass itself was under 500 €: An equivalent area, for example in granite, costs multiples of that.

There are melamine boards at Ikea for around 36.00, with various decors, plus nice aluminum frames. We have 2 of those. Looks good. The rest is fiberglass with latex. Abrasion-resistant. The tiled splashback was omitted and charged with surcharges elsewhere.

We have tiles in a size of 1.20m x 0.60. This means there are almost no joints, so it is easy to clean and you don’t see every splash.

Sockets, etc. are possible with glass as well.

After one year, we are very satisfied.
Our kitchen builder charged around €1,100 gross for installation, sealing, and socket adjustments; approx. 5.5 meters running length, in three parts.
Of course, it is cheaper online.

You should just not use frosted glass, because any dirt behind it will shine through; instead, use back-painted glass. Ours is painted white on the back; however, it always appears somewhat grayish due to the gray of the countertop.

For this, we raised the wall under the hanging base cabinets by half a tile height of 75 cm - this is a special case for us, but visually and practically great for sweeping.

The "socket problem" can also be solved differently.

I currently have an extra deep solid wood worktop made of oak with only a upstand as a finish. No sockets in the wall. All were recessed into the worktop (Bachmann Twist).
