Hello,

our construction contract states that the kitchen wall will be tiled, about 3x1m.

But is that still popular nowadays?
When we were at the kitchen studio, we had actually agreed on a glass backsplash.

There are surely also newer waterproof paints or these aluminum prints.

Do you have any recommendations, should we install a tile backsplash or rather choose glass/aluminum?

Best regards!

Glass is smoother and therefore easier to clean, but on tiles you don't see every tiny splash. In the end, it doesn't matter at all and is a matter of taste. I wouldn't decide based on "modern or not," but rather on your style. In a country-style kitchen, a tiled backsplash belongs imo, but not in a glass-concrete-modern kitchen. It also depends on the specific tiles and how the backsplash looks. We will probably get one made from a colorful mix of Mexican tiles, which (if unsuccessful) will look more childish than old-fashioned.

We are getting a (thinner) countertop as a backsplash. We had that before, it looked good so we want it again.

There are many possibilities. Of course, you can do it with tiles. Personally, I wouldn't. The possibilities with glass are diverse. And as wrote, you can also use the countertop as a backsplash (not my preferred option). In my opinion, it depends on the color differentiation between the countertop and the kitchen front as well as the base color of the countertop. For example, we have a rather dark countertop - and we didn't want the same dark wall (although a light kitchen front). There are also good washable paints that offer almost endless color possibilities. Today, your own taste decides. So do it the way that seems best to you personally.

With glass, however, it must be taken into account that cutouts for sockets cannot be integrated as easily, or this will definitely increase the price significantly.

There is a wide variety of tiles and their effects... aside from that, I would always go by the style of the kitchen and the surroundings in the room.

Yes, it often looks good, but with the wrong color and cabinet color, it can look completely off.

A simple coat of paint at the stove or sink, with clear varnish, can also be enough.
