Fortunately, his initial repayment is so high that nothing will happen with his rate after 10 years. The remaining debt financed at 5% with a €1600 rate is over 5% repayment.
Under these conditions, I would even look the other way around, what could happen with a 5-year fixed interest rate.

5 years didn’t even occur to me, but good point. I will have it calculated next week and write here what it would have amounted to. In the end, just under 40,000 interest payment is not "much" compared to back then, but at least for some, a year’s salary..

We take 2 A-loans. One with a term of 10 years and one with a term of 15 years. The loan amount is slightly higher than yours. So it won't be too tight in the 10 years.
