Is the canopy over the entrance too dark?

I wouldn't leave it out, because depending on the side (weather side?), it can be "annoying" for the front door or generally for you/guests. But I would also tend to go with glass for you - you definitely have to clean it depending on the location.

Just had the meeting - there will now be a canopy with the same roof tiles as the normal roof. I drove around the village beforehand - many new buildings have no canopy, and if they do, here they are often tile canopies. I actually found quite a few quite nice. I hope it doesn't look too much like a foreign object. It will only be doweled into the facing brickwork; the load rests on the pillars; I think that's good - glass would have had to be doweled into the intermediate ceiling. From a design perspective we definitely need it, otherwise the entrance is hard to find and we have to store muddy shoes somewhere. It is the absolute north side - I hope the loss of light isn't too bad. I prefer to have a roof over it - the weather side, however, is more to the west.

We have the entrance in the north - without a canopy. The front door does not get wet in the rain. My guests rarely have to stand in front of the door for long, and if they do, they have to walk to the door even in the wet,...

Weird argument - when it’s really pouring, people normally take off their shoes outside too. And "rarely long" means there are waiting times. Normally, you park in front of the house/garage and then hurry as fast as possible under a roof. I wouldn’t be keen to stand still even for 15 seconds in a rain shower

But everyone to their own - we had the entrance made to avoid a (possibly vulnerable) structure .

Yes... we also had a few drafts with a nicer solution... but you can't have everything
If it gets too cruel, I'll take it down again.
The dark part is actually our only concern.

You can counter the risk of it getting too dark by painting the columns and the underside of the roof in a light color.

If you also have an electrical cable there, indirect lighting with an LED floodlight would also be an option. With 10-20 watts, it already brightens up like the sun.

Best regards,

Andreas
