Hello,

we recently moved into a new apartment which we absolutely cannot complain about, except for one point and that is stated in the rental agreement, but unfortunately we did not take it seriously or did not pay any attention to it.

This passage states that drying laundry in the apartment is prohibited. So we would be forced to buy a dryer.

Can someone please explain this nonsense to me?

I don't really know much about it, but if it's in the contract, it must be so. Only, how is he supposed to check whether you dry the laundry like that or not? The measures against mold formation just have to be taken!

hello

I think it depends on how you dry the laundry. If you dry it with the windows closed, then I understand the landlord's concern since mold will spread there sooner or later. But if you dry the laundry properly, that is with the window open, I think it's no problem. I would also be interested to know how the landlord wants to check that??

The fact is that the landlord stipulates in the contract that laundry may not be dried in the apartment. The reasons are usually that especially in new buildings, the humidity and moisture levels are very high, and therefore special care must be taken to ensure that this humidity is somehow expelled outside. Proper ventilation is one thing, not increasing it unnecessarily is another. ;)

Hi,

I had this problem once too and ultimately had no choice but to get a dryer. I was also a bit annoyed at first, but after the landlord showed me another apartment with significant mold infestation - caused by drying laundry inside the apartment, as he claimed - I relented and now either dry the laundry with the dryer or on the balcony during the summer months.

I would say that our apartment is also at risk of mold. We have some in the bathroom. However, we have been drying our laundry in the living room for years, and mold has never formed. Shock ventilation, every hour, must definitely be included. But everyone should reconcile it with their own conscience whether they are committing a breach of contract or not. Even if it is utterly nonsensical..
