Is it useful to have a flower meadow facing northeast? Experiences?

Hello everyone,

we have a plot of land that is almost 450m² (or rather small). Most of the outdoor area is finished, but there are still some construction sites. The plan so far for a garden area (about 25m²) was to sow a wildflower meadow there. However, this area faces northeast. Sunlight is rather scarce there. According to my research, there are already flower seeds for shaded areas.

Do any of you have experience with flower meadows in shaded areas or in general? Or are there other ideas?

Here is the plot. It’s about the light blue area. At the bottom left and right are neighbors with little distance. Above, along the entire curved area, is the street

Thank you very much

No problem, works. We have that too. They are just different flowers than with [Süd Ausrichtung], but a wildflower meadow works in any direction.

Evolution already thought of that...

What are your experiences regarding maintenance, etc.? Would you do it again? Do you still remember the seed mix? Thank you very much

I would also worry less about that. Take a high-quality mix of regional wild plants, e.g. from Syringa or Rieger-Hoffmann. In the cheap mixes from the hardware store, there are almost only annuals. That creates a firework in the first year, and in year 2 only grass and weeds are visible. A wildflower meadow is mowed twice, in June and September (in very nutrient-rich soil possibly three times). In June, it is advisable to leave the cuttings lying for 2 dry days before removing them, then the seeds fall off. With the good mixes, it takes 2 years until it looks really nice because the perennial plants develop only rosettes in the first year and only from year 2 on the flowers.

We have practically no maintenance effort, see .

The wildflower meadows in our garden developed naturally, the only one we created ourselves succeeded only on the second attempt, then with high-quality seeds (see post above).
