Then I'll step in for young builders: My wife and I are currently building at 26 years old, both have good jobs, decent salaries, and we also had a bit of equity .

Then you are doing significantly better than the OP couple... And from 21 to 26 years old there is already a big difference in life development.

My wife and I are currently building at 26 years old, both with good jobs, reasonable salaries, and we also had a bit of equity.

The loan was calculated so that I alone could comfortably cover the house plus living expenses for both of us with my former, lower salary.

We will be done with the loan long before retirement/pension (even without special repayments).

Of course, it's not going to be a palace, but a nice house according to our ideas.

Could you put that into rough numbers?
Reasonable salaries and a bit of equity leave a lot of room for speculation.

And what kind of house did it turn out to be?
