Is an active fan necessary in the kitchen?

Hello everyone,

we have purchased an apartment in the Munich outskirts from the developer. The shell construction has begun, and the apartment should be ready to move in by mid-2019.

Now we have been given the opportunity by the developer to order a fan in the kitchen on a special request basis. This active fan is not suitable for connecting a cooker hood.

It is the same fan as in the bathroom of the apartment, which ensures the apartment’s ventilation (model Lunos Silvento). The device in the kitchen will be integrated into the existing ventilation concept of the apartment and connected to the exhaust collection duct.

The fan is planned at the position labeled Kü-L-AV-v in the attached kitchen plan and can be actively switched on and off via a button. The kitchen is semi-open upwards to the living/dining room.

The surcharge for the fan is around 800 EUR, but includes all necessary labor and material costs.

We are currently considering whether to order the kitchen fan. Our doubts/questions are as follows:

[*]Is something like that really necessary? We do have a large window in the kitchen that can also be opened well if needed.
    [*]Noise development during operation
    [*]Price!

For the above reasons, we are currently more inclined not to take the kitchen fan. What are your experiences – does anyone have it and absolutely does not want to miss it anymore?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Do not take it, it makes no sense. The performance is not sufficient in the kitchen. Better to open the window.

At the marked position, it is wrong. I would place it over the cooktop and connect it to the extractor hood.

No one needs that, forget the fan.

The plan shows where the exhaust pipe to the central ventilation system runs. You can’t/aren’t allowed to connect an extractor hood there, and with a proper hood, a 75 or 90 mm pipe is not sufficient anyway...

A controlled residential ventilation has nothing in common with an extractor hood. One has power without end, the other is a steady slow exchange of room air. The exhaust vent has more the ulterior motive that the air from the kitchen does not have to find its way through the apartment to the nearest exhaust vent. Which in your example would be the one in the bathroom.

Thank you very much for your answers. This confirms our initial assessment not to take the kitchen extractor fan not.

Regarding the extractor hood above the stove: for structural reasons (the appearance of the facade must not be changed) we cannot implement an extractor hood with external venting. Therefore, all apartments in the residential complex have recirculating extractor hoods. But that is okay for us and we have that in our current rental apartment as well.
