Good morning,

I was told yesterday not to raise a finger right away and I don’t want to do that here either. In my opinion, you should create a realistic calculation with income and expenses for the worst case, meaning if you have 2-3 children (depending on how many you would like), if the wife works part-time or not at all, etc. Then you will have a rough idea of what might be possible and what not.

When I had these questions in one of my threads, I also only became aware of what and how to calculate. Maybe post 77 will help you further. The list in that post is only a guideline and is not 100% correct.

Regards

Children already cost a lot of money. And if you want to go back to work, there may also be high childcare costs.

Hello! You are young and have a very good income. You have also saved up a good amount of equity. I have to critically question the expenditure side:

- 3250 spent less 700 cold rent (1000 warm?). What did you two do with 2,250??? 50k equity through 1750 surplus means about 28 months saved. Why not more equity?

Children cost money. How high are the childcare costs, PKV (I assume they run through you as a civil servant), and what is the income loss from part-time? You earn more as a civil servant. Are any salary increases still to be expected?

If I consider that in part-time about 1k net is lost, childcare also costs 700-800 less child benefit, it becomes veeeeeeeeeery tight.

If you loved vacations, say goodbye to them.

The total price of 417,600 EUR already includes "everything"... outdoor facilities, new kitchen etc. and since we want to do some work ourselves through own labor, the price will rather fall a bit..

I have to say that I was only civil-servant last year and we treated ourselves a lot in the last 1-2 years (new car (€30,000); flying on vacation 3 times a year, etc.)

- €1000 warm rent is correct, by the way
- Salary increases are also to be expected, both for me and for my partner (but we do not include them in the calculations)

No one here will spoil the dream for you anyway. You should just make a solid household budget for afterward (children, etc.).

I would be cautious with the rather falling costs. We thought so too, and now with a new build, things have to be done nicer and better here and there. Especially in the garden. Furniture usually has to be new as well. After all, everything is new. I am a fan of taking a rather conservative approach.

One thing is clear, staying at home for 3 years is not an option. Your husband simply cannot manage it alone with his salary. Just saying.
