That is not entirely correct: there are deferral cases. This includes parental allowance for the first child, hence these 12 months. After that, the parental allowance for the second child decreases with each month later, as one working month is lost if work is not resumed after one year. But this only applies after 6 weeks, because maternity protection is also a deferral case. And of course, there is also the 10% allowance for each child under 3 years already living in the household, at least €75.
This has led to my wife still receiving half of the previous parental allowance for our second child born on Friday, even though our daughter is already 23 months old.
This is especially a pretty nasty calculation now with Parental Allowance Plus, so better calculate with a worst case of €375 for the second child (minimum rate).
I think the thread creator is no longer really interested in parental allowance and private health insurance. Some people should just go ahead and do it.
