I am not satisfied with the decentralized system either. High acquisition costs (including installation and electrical work several thousand euros), the annual maintenance is more expensive than the energy savings (doing it myself was not possible, a lot of fiddling and the fleece also costs), noisy even at the lowest setting (in the bedroom I have to turn it off at night), heat loss through the "holes" in the insulation.

Sorry, that might have come across wrong. We actually meant the same thing, it wasn’t meant as a reproach.

For us, it will be like this: the place stays closed and the air conditioning turns on when there is a need for cooling.
That way my cats don’t run away, the flying bugs stay outside, and the muggy pollen-laden air as well. If then the filters also stay fresh longer because you only have the dust you bring in yourself, it’s a win-win for me and I definitely need a device like that!

Regarding cleaning:
I found an Austrian study that really breaks down the topic in detail. It recommends round spiral-seam ducts >=125mm and sufficient inspection openings.
Is that still up to date? I would feel better if you could inspect and clean it yourself, since I am also a mild asthmatic and you never know if at some point a change of floor level is coming (change of floor level -> worsening).

But can you even meaningfully install such thick ducts with inspection openings?

Right now is one of those situations where the system is too slow. Suddenly thunderstorm, only 19 degrees and nice air outside. In that case, classic window opening is best.

With your allergy, make sure you don’t have normal filters in the supply air.

Can the filter be replaced by myself? What is different with the higher filter classes? Really just the filter that I have to replace in the device anyway after a certain period?
Or do I need to pay attention to / insist on / have it inspected when buying/installing, or can I just replace it myself afterwards?

Filter replacement is quite simple for us. The F7 filters are compatible for the supply air. I think it is similar with other systems.
