Hi,

too bad, that means the DoorBird is dead!
Running something really security-relevant over some cloud servers is totally insane in my opinion. I might as well just skip the door lock.

If some script kiddies hack in there, they can open all DoorBird front doors with just one keystroke.

No thanks, I'll pass...

My Somfy shutters will also run via a cloud, which has already given me enough headaches. But in the worst case, you can only raise and lower shutters. Nothing more!

Best regards,

Andreas

Just out of curiosity, because I can't think of a useful example. Why should I be able to open the door from a distance?

Hi,

There may be some useful scenarios, but they are rather rare: Your wife or your child forgot the key and then you can open the door from a distance.

You can see from a distance who is currently ringing at your home and then tell the postman to please leave the package with neighbor XY.

But I wouldn't bring such a security risk into the house for this possibility.

Best regards,

Andreas

For me, the main reason for such a system would be that you can simulate being at home by speaking in case an uninvited person is standing there. I actually find the remote opening option rather problematic than helpful.

What actually happens if such a cloud provider goes bankrupt? Does everything then go to waste? That would be another reason against it.

But that also works without the cloud. For example, with almost any system that can be connected to a telephone system, you can also forward the "calls" to your mobile phone. And then open it.

... that has the interfaces ...

With Gira, it works if you get the TK gateway. Or the TK IP gateway, which costs 1000€ again. Gira would cost me from 1,500€ with video, audio was around 400€, I think. We haven’t made a decision yet.

But I once had the Vista system from m-e sent to me. Didn’t even unpack it properly, packed it up again right away and sent it back. If the buttons are not even properly deburred and hang loosely inside, then I don’t want to get to know the rest at all. Just to make the list smaller.
