Insulating the garage from the outside against water?

Hello everyone,

It is about a garage that borders the ground on two sides due to its hillside location. The back of the garage must therefore support the slope.

These two walls and the ceiling of the garage are cast from concrete and reinforced with steel.
All others, which stand free, are built with bricks.

Question: do/should the walls against the ground be additionally insulated? The shell builder did nothing there.

The garage ceiling is always welded on top as well.

Regards

Yes, you have to. The ground-contacting areas must be sealed (not insulated). Usually 2x with thick coating, then dimpled membrane, possibly drainage (required with pressing water). Which materials and in what quantities, your building materials dealer will advise you on that.

Our U recommended two layers of sealing slurry for a precast concrete garage. In addition, do not place soil directly against the garage but leave a trench and fill it with gravel, as this drains water better. Perhaps visible in the photos.

I would also do 2x thick coating, (if you want you can add a perimeter insulation, but it won’t make any difference for a garage) and then instead of a dimple membrane, better place drainage stones with drainage underneath.

Ok, short update. It is WU concrete. Does that change anything about the matter?
Short addendum again. The whole thing is actually only because the shell builder thinks that it is not necessary because of WU concrete?

WU concrete can be placed directly into the ground. It is watertight.
