Installing underfloor heating in an apartment (from the 60s). Good idea?

Hello everyone,

I am buying a condominium (3 rooms, 70m²). The multi-family house from the 60s (about 20 or 30 apartments) has a central gas heating system. In my future apartment, there are radiators from around the 80s. I would actually like to have underfloor heating and am wondering if that is technically feasible. Specifically,

1. is that even possible (assuming that the other owners agree)?
2. if I am the only one with underfloor heating, does that have any disadvantages now or maybe in the future, if the homeowners' association switches from gas to technology X at some point?

And what kind of costs should I roughly expect overall? Currently, laminate and tiles are installed in the apartment and I think in the future there should be about 30m² of tiles and 40m² of parquet.

Best regards
Torsten

You first need to clarify how the billing for the heat is done – if each apartment is equipped with its own heat meter, then it would be possible. If not, then basically the outlook is poor.

At least the property. technically feasible. Sensible? 1. You need the consent of the owners' association 2. You need a mixer that can lower the heating water to the temperature required for your apartment 3. You need proper insulation under the underfloor heating so that you don't heat the apartment below you 4. Build-up height must be appropriate 5. The underfloor heating must be able to heat the apartment at all (How is the old building set up energetically?) 6. Billing your consumption must be feasible Technically, property. feasible, but from practical experience with the above points alone I see many question marks and would bet house and home that you won't manage it.

A mixer is not necessarily required, as it can work with actuators and room thermostats. It's not that different from working with radiators. The gas central heating doesn't mind. But the floor can become quite warm at 50-60°C flow temperature. Some find this uncomfortable. However, I come to a similar assessment regarding the feasibility of the overall project.

At 60 degrees flow temperature, and if necessary with underfloor heating pipes milled in (i.e., near the surface), no flooring manufacturer will guarantee anything. RTL box is mandatory to reduce the temperatures.

Thank you for all your responses. I will assume for now that I cannot install [Fußbodenheizung]. It's not such a big deal.
