Thank you very much. What do I gain from being registered in the land register? Can I demand that from my parents-in-law? I just want us to really do this together... That is important to me. I don’t want to live there 'renting'...

You can definitely ask for that. Whether they want to gift you half of the property is their decision. But then you probably also have to be included in the loan, and THEN it will be very difficult for you to get out of that situation...

I am simply torn back and forth. I don’t know if I can consider it my property if I only pay 'rent' or consumption costs... How is something like this normally handled...? I want to fully belong there and also be allowed to call it half my house :-/

I didn't read anywhere that the property is supposed to remain in the possession of the 'Schwiegereltern'? Isn't that somewhat unfortunate, as the son can certainly have a falling out with the parents at some point. By the way, your boyfriend shouldn't consider it his property either.

You shouldn’t consider it as property - because it isn’t (as long as your name is not in the land register). No matter who you pay what to.

What is normal is always hard to define. At least it’s more common that a) you are older than 24 when building a house and b) you have been together longer or are even married.

In case of a separation, it would definitely be MUCH cheaper if everything were in your boyfriend’s name and you just contribute. If you then get married in three or four years, he can still gift you and you can contribute strongly.

Just don’t stress about it – building will be stressful enough.

Asked differently, why should your future father-in-law have you or yourself registered in the land register? No children, not married, so actually only a loose connection exists (sorry if I say that).

However, if you were to contribute, for example, €50,000 of equity to the house financing, then in your case, I would at least secure this amount through the land register.
