Hello dear ones,
I have a general question about rainwater infiltration.
I am currently in the process of getting quotes from various soil surveys; two of them have already informed me by email that, based on experiences in the neighboring area, infiltration on our property will likely not be possible.
My property is a building gap in a "farmer's village" directly adjacent to the road.

What exactly does this infiltration problem mean for my house building plans?
Are there possibilities or will I not be allowed to build? I have read a lot about infiltration options, cisterns, soakaways, etc. but nothing about what happens if NO infiltration is really possible.

I must also confess I have no idea about this and do not know how to approach such a problem.

If it is of interest: in front of the property at the roadside there is a drainage ditch with a natural slope; can this somehow be used?

I would be very happy to receive help.

• In extreme cases, soakaway combined with extensive soil replacement (against infiltratable soil) • Alternatively, ask if you can "buy yourself free" ;) • Or pragmatically: build a soakaway (with an additional secret overflow towards the sewage system) "Not building" is definitely not an option ...

How do the others do it?
Is infiltration on the property really mandatory, or are you even allowed to legally discharge the rainwater into the ditch?
I would talk to the neighbors. It rains on the same ground there after all. There must be solutions.

The neighbors (including my parents) let their water infiltrate into the ground. However, this is no longer allowed/possible now. Why and how I don't know :(. Whether you are allowed to discharge it into the ditch I also don't know, nor who could tell me that. An acquaintance has just started building on the same street and she also had problems – she could only drain at one spot on the property. Furthermore, about 10 single-family houses were planned on the premises of a farm in the same village; the construction was stopped for various reasons – one of them being the drainage problem. Buy yourself free? Since I am not familiar with this, I am worried that you will not get a building permit if you are not allowed to infiltrate on the property..

Yes, so it is of course difficult if you are neither allowed to discharge into the sewage canal, nor into the mentioned ditch, nor to infiltrate on the property. Because then theoretically you would have to collect the water in huge containers and transport it away. But honestly, I don't believe that. I think it is more of a misunderstanding between not being allowed and not being able to. So for example, rainwater is not allowed to be discharged into any canal, but must be infiltrated on the property. However, the building ground is not or poorly infiltrable. So it cannot practically be infiltrated without further measures. That would mean you have to do large-scale soil exchange or work with soakaway pits or infiltration shafts, which is quite expensive. It is best to inquire at the municipality, building authority, water supplier.

Ok, so there is a way for every property to ensure infiltration through measures. That already reassures me :) A really stupid question: about what exactly should I inquire with these institutions? Which measure is allowed? Sorry for my helplessness ‍
