I believe that the term simply comes from the fact that the same construction style (2 floors with a hip or pyramid roof) also exists in old town centers and these houses probably had a "villa" character at the time they were built compared to the surrounding houses. I think it is derived from that. At least I associate the word less with the modern "villa" character and more with the rough appearance of old town city villas. just try bing image search for Stadtvilla. there are already quite a few that look pretty villa-like. especially when one-story utility buildings are attached on the left and right, so it's not just a simple tent, or or or…
