Exactly, I think raising the ceiling height from 1m to 2.80m will be too expensive. I will ask what it costs to raise it from 1m to 1.30m.

- what do you think the costs will be?

@ Tommes

That depends on the size of the object; I can hardly say anything precise off the cuff. However, you should be able to compensate 30 cm with a slight reduction of the roof pitch.

I would also consider one's own height. With a 10m roof length and 45% roof pitch, a 2m tall person has a total of 6m² less freely accessible area than a person who is 1.70m tall. Similarly, custom-fitted built-in cabinets are likely to be more expensive than standard furniture, which offsets the additional costs in 2-story buildings.

There is no ideal solution. Everything <1.50m (as long as the development plan allows it) would be too little for me.

But you also have to take the exterior appearance of the house into account - personally, I find houses with huge knee walls (or directly two-story) with gable roofs unattractive & somehow strange in their symmetry. It just doesn't fit visually into many development patterns - at least here in the North/West. In the South & East, you see that (unfortunately) more often...

Thanks first of all for the numerous feedbacks. According to the development plan, we are allowed to build up to 2 full floors. But I agree with Lexmaul79 that 2 full floors don’t look so nice visually, but that’s a matter of taste and use. We have now obtained an offer from the builder and there the knee wall is specified as 1m. The question is what he would want for an increase of the knee wall to e.g. 1.50 m. That’s where you’re stuck with the builder, they charge well for that. Just the increase of the basement rooms by 10 cm from 2.20 to 2.30 m costs 1200 €, so I’m curious what the knee wall increase would cost.
