Hello everyone,

after following the vast majority of threads here for many months now, I thought I would also post my problem here.

We will start building our detached single-family house in southern Baden-Württemberg in about 3 weeks. It is a plot with a slight slope (approx. 2.5m over 25m). The house itself faces south. Besides other planning aspects, I am especially uncertain about the furnishing of the living room.
As can be seen in the first picture, the dimensions of the living room are 6.8 x 4.5m. On the right side of the plan there is a kind of room divider (to the dining room) with a gas panoramic fireplace with only low heat radiation (see picture from the fireplace builder). At the bottom of the picture is a window front about 5m long that can be opened from right to left.

As shown in another picture, I thought it made sense (after a first re-planning where the TV was planned above the then tunnel fireplace) to hang the TV next to the fireplace about 1m high on the wall. Media input will be via network or invisible electronics. The sofa is then placed as an L-shape on the northern wall as seen in the picture, to have a view of the fireplace, TV, and outlook from there. The necessary cabinets could then be placed on the left (plan left) wall.
I myself find the TV position not quite optimal but compared to before (centered above the tunnel fireplace) definitely better and could live well with it.

What is your opinion on this layout, especially the furnishing?

It doesn't work much differently if you don't want to adjust the glass folding wall or position a TV cabinet in the room. You could place the sofa completely in the corner and put the cabinets, one each, at the ends of the sofa sections. The TV can be easily turned into the room with a wall mount, so the viewing angle is a bit more comfortable.

Not to sound stupid, but didn't you think about that when you set the floor plan? Anyway, I wouldn't do it the way it is on the plan, to me it represents a shrinking of the room and creates a dirty corner ...

At the TV from noon onwards, all roller shutters/blinds are down or curtains closed because otherwise the sun shines on the TV... not really a good position. In winter it doesn't matter, in summer it's rather annoying...

Thank you very much for the ideas. Especially the one with the glass folding wall is interesting. I had not really considered that before. I have forwarded it directly to the architect. The window offers should be coming in the next two weeks. Let's see if that would be an option.

Regarding the sofa position: Actually, I quite liked the idea of it as a room divider so far, but I might actually try a position against the wall or possibly forgo an L-shape in favor of more seats.

I actually thought you had already planned them. You wrote:

They certainly aren’t a bargain ;-)
