I painted a wooden slatted wall with latex paint about 20 years ago and was absolutely thrilled with the result. Based on that experience, about 5 years ago I repainted our self-built shoe cabinet (spruce wood) white with regular hardware store latex paint and am thrilled again. The paint works excellently on wood and adheres perfectly. Here is a photo... Best regards, Steffi.

That looks more like a varnish stain to me.

No definitely not... it is latex paint from the hardware store. I bought it myself and painted it. I even kept the can so I remember the product. Best regards, Steffi.

okay, why did you specifically choose the latex paint, did it have any advantages?

The first application 20 years ago was pure chance. I had the paint (actually a silk-matt wall paint from Dulux) left over and tried it on the wooden paneling. Without sanding... just directly onto the raw wood. The result and the easy application were so impressive that I would always do it that way again.. With roller and brush it went completely streak-free and opaque. The surface became silky smooth and wipeable. At that time, 20 years ago, I didn’t feel like using a solvent-based varnish.. so the idea came about. Just give it a try! Best regards Steffi.
