Hello everyone,

we want to redecorate the dining area of our open-plan kitchen. Currently, we have a round table that seats four people, see picture. We want/need to expand it so that up to 6 people can sit. However, we are not sure which table (round, rectangular) we should use. The space is quite tight, as you can see from the sketch with the dimensions. On the left side of the picture, you can also see that the countertop extends into the room. Below it is a cabinet with two doors that open towards the dining area (two doors, each 45cm wide). There are things inside that we do not need on a daily basis. Accordingly, the doors are rarely opened.

Do you have any ideas on how we should proceed here?

I look forward to your feedback!

How about an oval table?

I would probably put a bench against the wall and then a rectangular (elongated) table in front of it with chairs around it. It will be a bit tight. Possibly another bench on the long side. Benches take up a bit less space because they are not pushed back when standing up. But they are more difficult to crawl in and out of.

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Personally, I would be a fan of a round table as it is now. The current one has a diameter of 105cm. I have read that 120cm would be good for six people. However, it will probably be very tight with such a table.

And what is in this entire area? Perhaps a floor plan of the whole room would be beneficial for advice.

Why no round table with an insert leaf if you don’t always have six people at the table? My sister has one. I think from Ikea.
