How big should the garden terrace be?

We also have 4m. I would definitely not go below that. Otherwise, as described, you can't even walk around the table when everyone is sitting around it. Another thing to consider is that if you are thinking about roofing the terrace and the roof is lower than 3m, a building permit is required for this in many federal states. Depending on how far you already are, it would be advisable to include this directly in the building permit.

Rooftop terrace or why is only so little allowed? I would also recommend at least 4 meters so that it doesn’t get too cramped. We have 5x12m and even there I sometimes think (with flower pots facing the garden) that it could have been a bit more.

There are also pavements that are not counted. Or driveways with gravel/stones, then there is more space left for a terrace...

We have about 6.5m x 4m and don't find it too big. In front of the patio door, there is space to step out or the children can put on or take off their shoes there, and there is enough room to walk past. The table with the 6 chairs is then positioned sideways next to the patio door. The whole thing is then covered with a 6x4 roof. And as already wrote, there are also potted plants or the cushion box and a small fridge for the summer on the terrace.

Why don't you just talk to the developer right away about making the terrace bigger. You pay the money for it on top and you avoid all the trouble
