What does the income situation look like with children? Then it could already become a bit tight.

Have you already inquired about [Fördermittel]?

With children, she would take a 75% position for a limited period. In my opinion, the first year could be managed quite well with parental allowance. She wouldn't have to work at all then. What exactly do you mean by funding? We would like to use a KFW loan for modernization and otherwise, we also use the Riester subsidy in the two building savings contracts.

Well, that sounds pretty good.

Funding can also be available from state banks, districts, and cities. Just inquire there.

The L-Bank in BW, for example, offers discounts on KfW loans and provides low-interest loans to families.

If your wife is covered by statutory health insurance, then later have the children insured through her. The photovoltaics for children may not be that high, but a contribution-free co-insurance has its benefits. Besides, statutory health insurers "take care" more than the [Beihilfe] or the photovoltaics. Our daughter is therefore insured through my wife.

A long fixed interest period is definitely recommended. You are still young, and the salary still makes some jumps thanks to the age levels. But what about the place of work? Is it secure? As a civil servant, you can basically be transferred at any time, within your federal state or, as a federal civil servant, theoretically nationwide. Quote from a senior official when it came to office closures: "Buildings can be sold, marriages divorced. We assist with both."

And if you renovate, then do it properly. Everything that creates dirt or will be needed in the next 10 years should be done right away. It is always easier before moving in. Afterwards, it becomes difficult and usually ends in a compromise.

Great, both answers with helpful tips! Thank you! I will definitely request more information about additional funding when I start talks with the banks! My position is located in Bonn and is fortunately very secure. There are shortages everywhere in the authority... Do you think it could be a problem that I will still be a probationary civil servant for the next 1.5 years? After this period, I will definitely be appointed as a civil servant for life, but I don't know if the bank will make things difficult.
