Are you sure that this "scribble drawing" replaces the building application, or is it more like you have to apply for the building permit in a simplified approval procedure before starting construction?
Phew, I have to ask again to be sure. The man from the city said something about the next approval committee being in mid-July, and that we could just barely make it if we submit the rough plan at the beginning of June. I simply concluded that would probably mean a building permit, but probably not ;)
The good thing is that my brother-in-law, who is a contractor and is not doing this for the first time, will be building a house in the same area and at the same time (with the same architect and the same construction crew). At least we can latch on to him a bit and benefit from his experience.
That also answers the question of why only in a year. He only starts building in a year and we will move along with that.
Honestly, I don't think I'll become this kind of client ;) I don't see a house as a life project into which all my heart and soul has to flow. If it were up to me alone, I would simply have a prefab house put up and that would be it. Actually, I'm mainly looking forward to the garden and no longer living among high-rise buildings in a big city.
To be honest, the planning with the architect also gives me a bit of a stomach ache. Especially because I don't speak his language and am fully dependent on the interpreting skills of my in-law family.
On the other hand, I take it quite easy. Honestly, I don’t care how the house looks from the outside. I know roughly how many rooms and how many square meters I want. That’s all so far. So you're right when you say I don't really know where this journey is supposed to go. And I also admit that just going with the flow is not enough for a project like this ;) But since I really have very low expectations for the house, I think I'll simply be impressed by whatever the architect proposes and would most likely accept one of the first proposals.
