So, one also has to allow changes. I have also made a suggestion on how to solve something like this. Making compromises is part of it nowadays. Also, that you don’t always get what you are used to. It doesn’t always have to be worse just because it is different. For example, an advantage is that you don’t have to carry out expensive paving. However, you also have to feel comfortable and, if necessary, deal with alternatives regarding parking space.

Our old house stood by the street like all the others. It is not bad - habit. On the contrary, looking inside is harder than when they are set further back. Upstairs it hardly matters whether the house stands directly by the street or 5 m further back.

The new house, however, stands further back, for different reasons.

Show me the property, maybe it has something to offer in the back.

If you have to "get used to something" and your gut feeling says no, then leave it.

Hundreds of millions of people worldwide also live in wooden huts or tents, yet I would want to avoid that as much as possible.

Yes, exactly, there is a very old house on the property and we want to demolish it and build a new one, which then also has to be directly on the street. What exact problems could arise from that?

Common walls, supporting neighboring walls, foundation and securing measures (basement yes/no), etc. But it's nothing that can't be handled. However, it can (and probably will) be more expensive than building on a free plot without neighbors.
