Hello homeowner

I am curious if and with what security technology you protect your house against uninvited guests. I am currently working my way through the world of alarm systems and have to see that there are cheap and expensive ones. Above all, what does your alarm system include? Cameras, motion detectors, etc.

Since I work at night, I want my 2 ladies at home to sleep safely because we have a very open visible property with only 1 neighbor.

What do you think of a dog? : )
Do you consider the neighbor a protection or security problem?

We considered getting a dog, but that’s off the table since we don’t have the time. We’d rather not do it at all. I see neighbors more as a security issue, since he blocks the view of our garden and cannot see it himself.

I was thinking more about the neighbor as a person. It was not clear whether you might be worried about the hidden location + the neighbor. Usually, he knows when the man leaves the house. You are very concerned about protecting the ladies from visitors and only secondarily about property damage due to burglary - am I reading that correctly? Therefore, I would at least consider connecting to a security company. They are very quick to respond in case of emergency - a camera or a red alarm light probably won’t help much.

Morning!

How is an alarm system supposed to provide security – especially for people?

Usually, it is preceded by the actual (burglary) protection (WK1 ff.) because each resistance class only withstands resistance for a certain time – until the police etc. arrive.

In a single-family house, the protection is usually combined, i.e., the system triggers when it is already too late .

An alarm system in the private sector mainly has a deterrent effect and should therefore be (at least in part) visibly obvious – at first, it does not matter whether it is actually functional.

If someone is not deterred, especially in a remote location of the property, only connection to the police and/or a security company helps, as well as, for personal protection, setting up a safe room. Possibly in combination with emergency power/UPS.

Even this does not help much if the bad guy simply rings the doorbell during the day :p.

In practice, systems usually become known through false alarms – and that also costs money!

Hardly anything goes wrong with a clearly visible alarm light – without further wiring; then the "visitor" hopefully moves on to the neighbor :D.

Best regards,
TomTom.

I have prepared something here. Site plan of the house.... As I said, our property is only blocked to the one neighbor, so that he cannot see into our garden.

Primarily, I want something for deterrence. I also thought about the front door. There will be an intercom system and an additional lock (basically a modern chain).

I wanted to install an alarm light on the house so that it can be seen from the street. And of course, to work with motion detectors and lights. Only in case someone enters the property.
