Hello everyone,

we are currently changing our plan again quite a bit.
One point that bothers us a lot among other things are these damn windows on the upper floor.
At this height, you can hardly see outside.
Do you have any tips on how to make the windows higher? We are not allowed to go higher than the wall height.
We thought about leaving out the blinds, or setting the house a bit lower, or reducing the room height on the ground floor.
Do you have better tips?
What exactly is all above the window (with the height 46.5)? Are there lower versions of that?
Thanks.

Best regards

You could, if it looks good at your place, extend the windows up to the roof. For example, there are Velux windows, which look like this:

There are also roller shutters available for Velux windows.

You might be able to omit or reduce the lintel. With our ground floor windows, that's possible. They are installed flush with the ceiling, meaning the roller shutter box (18cm) starts directly below the ceiling. However, that's a concrete ceiling. I don't know how it looks with your roof. But I do think you could probably go a bit higher. Best to ask the planner directly. What does he say about it?

We also have knee wall windows:

However, in every room that has a knee wall window, there is also a floor-to-ceiling window on the gable side.

From the inside it looks like this:
(Our son was 1.12 m tall at that time)

I don’t think the windows are that bad. Of course, as an adult you can’t really look out of them, but they provide additional light and the children can see something when they play on the floor.

However, if those were the only windows, it would bother me too.

As far as I know, that would not be allowed either, since a minimum amount of natural lighting is required for every living space. The architect knows the details, but a knee wall window alone would be too small.

Just mentioned in passing, but my point is overtaken by reality anyway, since hopefully no one would equip a living space with only a knee wall window.

I see it like the others. If there is a gable window, then the light is sufficient. I personally don't like the low knee wall windows because you simply can't place anything in front of them – no desk, no dresser, etc. But since you have a normal height up to the bottom edge of the window, I would probably leave it as is and accept that you can't look out while standing. I wouldn't do without a roller blind either if these are bedrooms. In the hallway, bathroom, or office you could do without it and make the window a bit higher. But different heights are also annoying if the windows are all on one side.
