Heat pumps require a lot of energy and make noise

Hello everyone,

we have been living in our new building for 1 month and have enormous noise problems. It comes from the manifold of the underfloor heating and the pump itself also makes enormous noise. It is more or less very intense flowing noises, which can be heard very well especially in the bedroom. The flow rate and also another pump have now been changed. Nothing has improved. However, in the early morning hours it is always quiet. Could it perhaps be due to a setting of the machine? The heating technician has already been here and does not know what to do anymore. Now, someone from Bosch will probably come and take a look, but I don’t know if it is the pump. It also hardly gets warm in the house at the current temperatures and I need 30 kWh or more every day, which seems very, very high for 150 sqm.

30KWh for 150m² could be suitable at the current temperatures. However, it of course depends on the type of heat pump ([Luft-Luftwärmepumpe], [Luft-Wasser-Wärmepumpe], [Sole-Wasser-Wärmepumpe]...) and the standard of the house ([KfW55], 40, passive...) and on the number of people and their favorite temperature and amount of shower or bath water.

With the amount of information you have provided so far, I can unfortunately only rely on my crystal ball, but it is still under repair ;)

Only 80 sqm of living space are heated at 21 degrees. The rest is set to 15 degrees. The main problem, which does not allow us to have a peaceful night, is rather the heating circuit distributor on the upper floor. Although it is in the hallway, it can be heard quite clearly in almost all rooms. The flow rate has already been limited and the pump has also been adjusted from level 3 to 1.

That is definitely a problem. Especially a heat pump relies on heating surface. If you turn off half of the heating circuits, the whole house has to be heated with the remaining circuits. This means the flow and supply temperature have to increase significantly to compensate for the other rooms. Because you always have to keep in mind that normally houses are insulated only on the outside, not between the rooms. So it is okay, for example, if you want to lower the bedroom by 2 or 3 degrees, but please not half of the house by a whole 6 degrees. So first use normal settings, check if the problem is solved, and then please report back again.

It still needs to be balanced thermally at least, the consumption is clearly too high! For comparison here: Partially renovated 70s house, heated area approx. 140 sqm, most rooms set to 21 degrees, the rest to 18, all radiators, consumption of the gas boiler approx. 80 kWh/day. Converted to a heat pump that actually achieves a COP of 3, around 26 kWh/day. The outside temperature was around -5° C. So: enter "Thermischer Abgleich" into any search engine and carry it out. This sometimes takes a heating season, but it is worth the effort. Btw: This is all assuming that the heat pump is sized large enough and the heating element is not "on" all the time. Should not be a problem with a new building.
