Hello everyone,

for my house construction, which begins next year, I would like to inform myself about the heating system, specifically about the two systems:
+ Gas condensing boiler, supported by approximately 12m² solar thermal and a wood stove
+ Groundwater heat pump supplied by photovoltaic system

Zum Objekt:
+ Planned is a 10x11m house with two full floors, basement, hipped roof with about 35m² roof area facing south and about 200m² living space.
+ Exterior wall with 36.5cm perlite-filled bricks "Poroton T7"
+ Location: Bavaria, approx. 1000 kW/m² solar radiation on annual average

Variante 1: Gasbrennwertheizung
Advantages:
- Mature, durable gas condensing technology (efficient)
- Fast response of the gas heating, no long lead time needed
- From about April to October heat energy from the solar modules sufficient (no gas needed), in winter support by wood stove, both hot water and heating

Disadvantages:
- Solar modules must be cooled relatively early in summer, i.e. little hot water is needed but it must be removed from the panels -> increased electricity and water costs without added value
- Large domestic hot water storage required to use the anticyclical heating periods

Variante 2: Photovoltaik mit Wärmepumpe
Advantages:
-
Autonomous heat and electricity production
-"Green energy"
-Additional support for other continuous power consumers (fridge, freezer chest, washing machine, dryer)
-Relatively low effort to install suction and intake wells, since groundwater is already at approx. 2.5m depth.

Disadvantages:
- High investment costs, both photovoltaic and heat pump (long amortization)
- Little sun available in months with high energy demand
- Complex and expensive, but still necessary storage options for photovoltaic electricity

I hope you can understand my concerns and ideas somewhat and I would greatly appreciate feedback. How do you see the situation? What is really sensible?

Thank you very much

Best regards

If I were to start building in 2016, I would try gas, controlled residential ventilation, and good insulation. If that doesn’t work, I would put solar thermal on the roof. Heat pumps would be too complicated for me and unreliable in terms of performance (cold winter -> heat pump bad; uncertain electricity prices and so on).

But that is not true about the heat pump, since it is not an air heat pump. Heat pumps are absolutely easy to use and require little maintenance (probably filter changes for groundwater heat pumps, I think). I achieved a yearly performance factor of over 6 with my brine heat pump (okay, warm winters). Electricity prices are just as certain or uncertain as gas prices. Other users here also do very well with a heat pump and solar combination.

We had similar considerations and were against the heat pump because it initially costs us 2700€ more, with the gas connection already deducted. However, the electricity lobby is so strong that we fear significant disadvantages in a short time. You can already see it directly on the energy certificate. With a heat pump, you get better values and an energy efficiency label of A+, with gas only B. In the future probably even worse, because it will increasingly shift in favor of electricity. This will come back to haunt you at the latest with the next renovation requirement or when renting/selling. Welcome to Energy Lobby Land...

I pay 40 € per month for heating. My used car has cost me 100 months (!) of warmth... I would rather say evil car lobby...

Can you somewhat substantiate that or are those just pub talk from last weekend? The preferential treatment of electricity at the beginning of this year had quite understandable reasons.
