Hello,

the latest annoyance: The grout color was ordered incorrectly by the tiler. We had met on the construction site, there "between door and hinge," and based on samples that we held directly against the tile, the grout color was decided. Everything seemed clear.

Now a different color has been grouted, which just doesn't look good.

Of course, nothing was recorded in writing, but you wouldn't have to do that (or so one would think).

The tiler said there is grout color that he would then paint over it.

Is that acceptable? With a grout cutter, I fear tiles would be damaged or it might even look worse beforehand.

It has happened so often that things were agreed upon verbally, sometimes twice, and it still gets done differently. One would think that should be enough. But actually, you have to be on the construction site every day and check the work, preferably before anything is done.

Yep,
tile setters all seem to be colorblind. Ours also started that way back then. Tile color ivory - but he used bright white for the grout and edges! Luckily, we were able to stop him in time and changed it.

You have to be on the construction site every day, scooter. You are the builder. It is your construction. Really. I was there every day, really every day at least early in the morning. And that's why such disasters could be stopped at the outset. Otherwise, we would have had a door in the kitchen that would have clashed with the ordered [EBK], sockets in the window frame, what a stupid idea!, ceiling outlets somewhere, just not in the middle, etc. etc.

I have a small child whom I have to take care of in the morning and whom I drop off at daycare, then I work until 6 PM or later. It is hardly feasible for me to be there every day. When I go there in the evening, "it" has already happened. Holes drilled incorrectly, ceiling hung crooked, wrong network cables laid, uneven stair steps... Even if you go back in the morning, "it" might only happen at 2 PM.

My wife does check from time to time, but usually the mistakes only become apparent afterward, when it's actually too late. It actually seems unnecessary to have to discuss and check things again beforehand after they have already been discussed several times. But apparently, it is necessary after all.

Regarding the current case: Does anyone have experience with "recoloring joints afterwards"? Does the paint hold?

No, I wouldn't get involved with that. Is it regular joint compound or some super stuff based on dispersion? I wouldn’t have the latter scraped out, but the first one yes.

I messed up with the wrong paint here. From then on, my wife took over everything related to paint.

I don't know anything about joint material... As far as I know, it is the regular joint compound from the company Sopro.

I spoke with him, he said coloring would be no problem. Later on, it wouldn't be possible to wipe/scrape it off either, because the color penetrates into the joint and dyes the entire compound.
